As of March 2008, our new name is Pederson Custom Guitars. We'll be updating the story of our name soon and hope that you can share in this new chapter of our company history.

I have also been asked quite a few times about my beliefs. People see the Christian influence in the inlays and ask why I chose to name the company "Abyss." (For those of you who don't know, the Abyss is referred to in the Bible as the "abode of demons and evil spirits" or Hell). When I started this company 10 years ago, I wasn't walking with the Lord. So when I looked for a name, I didn't take that into consideration.

I watched the movie The Abyss, which refers the deepest parts of the unexplored ocean as the "abyss." Another example is the Marianas Trench, which is referred to as the "abyss" and is the deepest place in the ocean—about seven miles deep. And as some of you know, when I first started making guitars I was working on seven string guitars, and they have the lower B string to go lower. So I just thought it would be cool to use a name that went as deep, so to speak. The lower note, the name abyss...it sounded great, so I used it.

It was never intended to be satanic in nature, but that is how the name came to be. Now I have found a new walk in life, and I acknowledge Christ as my Lord and Savior. Some people probably wonder, why I don't change it? I have done a lot of business in the last 10 years under the name and that is worth something but more importantly, I asked a few people (including customers) whose opinions I valued, based on their own acknowledgement of Christ, and here is what they say: "Keep it! You can use it as a witness to show people how far you have come."

With that in mind, I'd like to share a few favorite verses: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you," James 4:7; "Humble yourself before the Lord and he will lift you up," James 4:10; "My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins," James 5:19–20.

To my non-Christian brothers, I am not trying to offend you or turn you off by my beliefs. I am just putting them here to let you all know who I am and that I am truly here to serve your requests for MASTER GRADE guitars. My goals are committed to satisfy your guitar order with the utmost confidence and trust of playability, sound, fit and finish. It will truly blow you away!
